Professional experience

Emmanuel Ukegbu is a highly accomplished oil and gas executive and energy expert with over four decades of experience in upstream production operations, asset development, and executive management across Nigeria’s energy sector. His career spans onshore, offshore, and deep operational environments, with extensive leadership experience in production, facilities management, logistics, asset integrity, and large-scale organizational transformation.

Mr. Ukegbu began his career in 1982 with Ashland Oil Nigeria as a Production Technologist and quickly progressed through key operational roles, including Production Supervisor (Onshore), Offshore Production Supervisor, FPSO Superintendent, and Onshore Operations Superintendent. In 1993, he was appointed Calabar Base and Offshore Operations Manager, where he had overall responsibility for offshore production operations as well as base administration, logistics, marine and helicopter operations, materials and warehousing management, and community relations.

In 1998, Mr. Ukegbu joined Addax Petroleum, where he held several senior leadership positions, culminating in his role as General Manager, Production. In this capacity, he was responsible for the full spectrum of production operations across multiple assets, including offshore shallow-water fields, FPSO-based production systems, subsea completions, gas compression and reinjection facilities, and onshore fields. He led multidisciplinary teams and interfaced closely with drilling, facilities engineering, asset management, and project teams to deliver safe, efficient, and optimised production, while maintaining strict adherence to corporate HSSE standards and asset integrity requirements.

Following his retirement from Addax Petroleum in 2014, Mr. Ukegbu joined the Aiteo Group as Chief Operating Officer, where he provided strategic and operational leadership for the company’s upstream E&P activities. He played a central role in establishing Aiteo as a fully functioning E&P company, including building organizational structures, governance frameworks, and operating standards from inception. He was actively involved in the acquisition of OML 29 following SPDC’s onshore divestment, served as Transition Manager during the handover from SPDC, and led the successful operational takeover of the asset in 2015. Under his leadership, production was ramped up from approximately 23,000 barrels per day to 98,000 barrels per day within eleven months, alongside the initiation of comprehensive asset integrity management programs and support for critical financing restructurings following the 2015 oil price collapse.

Mr. Ukegbu currently serves as an Independent Consultant in the Oil and Gas Industry, advising on production operations, field development planning, asset integrity management, and operational excellence.

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering and an HND in Petroleum Technology and is a member of professional bodies including the Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE) and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (MSPE). He is widely regarded as a pragmatic and results-driven industry leader with deep technical expertise and a strong track record of delivering complex energy projects safely and efficiently.
